St David's Hope

If you are visiting this web page it may be because you received a "Happy St David's Day” leaflet. Welcome. If you discovered us some other way it is also great to welcome you to this part of The Net Wales website. This page has particularly been set up for people who want to know more about Jesus and the Christian Faith. This is a journey that St David took in his own life in a very different way over 1400 years ago!

Christianity – a growing faith

You may find it hard to believe that across the globe the Christian faith is more alive and vibrant than it has ever been. Even though Wales currently may not reflect this amazing growth, there are many examples across this Nation of people who have been changed through the good news of Jesus,

As Emyr Lewis the Welsh Rugby player put it:
"I went along to my friend’s church. Somebody stood up and shared their story and it was more or less identical to mine! After attending church for a while I started to be more open to signs from God. I read a book which challenged me as a man, husband and father, and I realised that I had to change. Things started to become clearer to me as I listened to what the Bible had to say.

As I accepted Jesus into my life, I felt a huge weight leave my shoulders. What I have now is inner peace. As I look back over my life, that’s something I didn’t have when I played rugby. For me there’s only one way to live and that is to follow Jesus Christ. In the rugby world, people have heroes and people try to follow their example. Jesus Christ died for us on the cross – he is the true hero who conquered death and will survive everything."

Emyr's story is far from unique and you can watch more stories of people changed by the amazing power Jesus on our page My Stories

“Jesus in our lives”

What does Emyr mean when he says "I accepted Jesus into my life"? How can we invite someone who lived 2000 years ago into our lives in 21st Century Wales?

Well the Bible gives us some important help on this journey.

The Bible at its core is a message of hope from God, who loves us and has a plan for our lives.

Christmas is about God stepping into the world he has made and it reminds us of the birth of Jesus, the Son of God. But this just part of that story. Jesus’ life, words and miracles are all about Jesus coming to a point that would change history for ever.

Easter reminds us that through Jesus’ Crucifixion (His death on the cross) and resurrection (coming back to life) Jesus has opened up a way for us to enter into a relationship with God.

It’s not a religion

At its heart Christianity is not religion, rituals and rules but a relationship. A relationship with God the Father who loves us, through God the Son, Jesus, who died and rose for us, and through God the Holy Spirit who to guide and lead us as we invite him to “come and live in us”.

Emyr Lewis so simply described it above: "As I accepted Jesus into my life, I felt a huge weight leave my shoulders. What I have now is inner peace."

It's a gift that can only be experienced when it is received.

Steps that you can take

Below are three important steps that you may feel ready to take:

Admit – You need to admit that you have made mistakes – the Bible calls this sin and that you need God to change your life. The Bible calls this repentance – it means turning from going your own way to going God’s way.

Believe that through Jesus and his death and resurrection you can receive God's gift of a restored relationship with him.

Commit! You are making a decision to go God’s way from now on. That doesn’t mean you will never make mistakes – we all do – but it is asking God to be the boss and with the help of his Holy Spirit to live the life that God intended you to live.

A prayer you can pray

Below is a prayer that you can pray. Praying the prayer alone will not make you Christian but if you pray this prayer and really mean it, God has promised He will answer.

"To all who received him, to those who believed in his name he gave the right to become the children of God" (John 1:12)

If you are ready to receive Jesus’ gift of life, why not pray this prayer now.

Dear God

admit I am a sinner and need your forgiveness; I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins; I am willing to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour and Lord. I commit myself to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, and to help me become the kind of person you want me to be.

Thank you Father for loving me.

In Jesus name. Amen
